D6 Conference 2011: Mark Holmen

September 23, 2011

Mark A. Holmen is a husband, father, pastor, consultant, speaker and author of the new release Impress Faith on your Kids, as well as the Church + Home DVD, Faith Begins At Home – The Family Makeover with Christ at the Center, and Building Faith At Home – Why Faith At Home Must Be a Church’s Top Priority. Mark is also the leading voice behind the new 607 Curriculum that can be found on 607 gives parents a skill, an experience, and a tool to drive faith at home. From October of 2002 through February of 2009 mark served as the Sr. Pastor of Ventura Missionary Church. During those years, he developed and implemented a model for becoming a Faith At Home Focused Church that gained so much attention and recognition that it has grown into a national and international Faith At Home movement supported by the Willow Creek Association and Focus on the Family. Mark, his wife Maria and daughter Malyn currently live in Ventura, California where they now serve as full-time missionaries for the Faith At Home movement.

The goal of Mark’s talk is two-fold: bring together the information of the conference and bringing it to the local church.

Four phases to the Faith @ Home movement:

  • Awareness: Why we need to be F@H focused. The home has always been the primary place where faith is nurtured and grown.

  • Methodology: How to be F@H focused. Not about adding family ministry. It is about every aspect of church. It is woven through every ministry of the church. Churches have to help parents be F@H focused. Parents want help and we are relegating it to Oprah and Dr. Phil. Help for churches for awareness and methodology is available through the Next Tour (

  • Sustainability: Maintaining a F@H focus. In John 15, Jesus uses the word “remain” 11 times in 7 verses. This F@H journey is not a 40 day program. It will likely take a generation.

  • Collaboration: Partnering on a F@H focus. Local churches with a F@H focus collaborating together to effect change. Helping F@H families collaborate through small groups.

Faith @ Home is:

  • Missional

  • Evangelisim

  • Discipleship

  • And We Need To Be Bold With It!

The Challenge:

  • Be BOLD with Raising Awareness

  • Be BOLD with Building Methodology

  • Be BOLD with Sustaining F@H

  • Be BOLD in Collaborating with Others

Where do we go from here?

  • You being a F@H focused individual.

  • Your specific ministry area becoming more F@H focused.

  • Your church becoming increasingly F@H focused.

Feel free to leave comments and questions. I will respond. I promise.
