For the past one and a half years, Cathy and I have been actively praying and seeking the opportunity God has for us to serve the local church. This has been a long, and sometimes discouraging, process. All along we have believed that God is and will continue to be faithful; and once again he has proven himself faithful.
On Sunday, June 10, we made our second visit to New Beginnings in Bryan, Texas. On Wednesday evening, in a unanimous vote, New Beginnings extended a call for me to serve as their pastor. I have accepted this call.
New Beginnings is a small Free Will Baptist church of about 30 members located in the city of Bryan, Texas. I will begin my pastorate there in a part-time capacity. I am under no illusions; the work will not always be easy nor always seem rewarding. However, I am confident in the same faithful God who has seen us through to this point. Cathy and I are both confident that this is the place and ministry God has called us to.
We have already begun preparations to move our family to the Bryan/College Station area. Our home is listed for sale. Cathy has submitted applications to local hospitals – and is already blessed to be scheduling interviews. We have begun the process of deciding on local schools for our children. We plan to be moved in less than a month and I will begin preaching on Sunday mornings on June 24.
The prayer, support, and encouragement we have received from many of you have made it much easier to wait patiently on God’s timing. Please don’t stop now! There are a few things we need our friends and family to pray with us for:
Pray God would bring a buyer for our house in Tyler. When we move we will have both a mortgage and rent until our home in Tyler is sold.
Pray that Cathy would quickly find a job that she loves. She is an excellent nurse specializing in Labor & Delivery and desires to work in a local hospital setting. We rely on her employment for our family’s health insurance.
Pray that we will make wise decisions regarding the education of our children. I am so proud of the boys. They are looking forward to the move. They are so smart – they get that from their mother – and we have applied to get them into schools and programs that will continue to challenge them.
Pray that the church will continue to grow in love and unity. Pray they will cooperate in outreach into the community. Pray that God will richly reward our work for his kingdom.
I share the sentiment of the apostle Paul when he writes to the Philippian Christians: “Every time I think of you, I give thanks to my God.” (Philippians 4:3) God has blessed Cathy and me with a supportive family, friends who love and care for us, and churches that have encouraged and prayed for us and helped prepare us for ministry. You are part of that. From the bottom of our hearts we say “Thank you”.
